[00:00:36] Vince: Hey, welcome back to the Vince Del Monte podcast. Today we are going [00:00:40] to help you stop listening to the wrong people. Just had a great call with one of my students, [00:00:45] Carson a pro bodybuilder out in Vancouver. Great, great dude. Joined a program a few months [00:00:50] ago and um, uh, we did a little game plan call and um, he opened up kind of just [00:00:55] expressing his concern with some of the marketing stuff that I was teaching him.

 

[00:00:59] Vince: [00:01:00] Like, and I'll give you an example, the five guys post, say I'm looking for five guys who want to do this by this date [00:01:05] and, props to Carson for opening up and just saying, Hey man, um, you know, this [00:01:10] marketing, I don't like doing it. And I'm like, what do you mean? And there's a couple other tactics I was sharing with [00:01:15] him to like two step posts, you know, raise your hand if you want this thing and, and, And, um, [00:01:20] you know, essentially what he expressed was like, oh, um, I guess he got a couple of critics from his peer [00:01:25] group of bodybuilders to keep in mind.

 

[00:01:26] Vince: Like he's a big dude, right? He's in the bodybuilding circle, [00:01:30] bodybuilding culture. So I want to kind of give you an appreciation of life. And I, I'm not picking on bodybuilders. I love [00:01:35] bodybuilders. Uh, I've, you know, I consider myself. Um, you know, a bodybuilder, a bodybuilder, somebody [00:01:40] wants to build muscle and lose fat.

 

[00:01:41] Vince: That's my definition of a bodybuilder. But these are bodybuilders who compete on [00:01:45] stage and, uh, you know, they essentially, these are the guys that do whatever it takes, if you know what I'm saying, to [00:01:50] win. All right. Um, and it's all good, right? Um, I love my bodybuilding [00:01:55] friends. I think it's an incredible sport.

 

[00:01:57] Vince: And, um, I kind of get the circle because I've been in the circle [00:02:00] for about 18 years. So I get the, I get the mindset and you know, there, there is, [00:02:05] um, in the circles, there isn't all athletic circles, but there is a bit of, you know, I would [00:02:10] say a conceded mindset. There can be, um, an egotistic mindset where it's [00:02:15] like, you know, look at me.

 

[00:02:16] Vince: Um, I'm, I'm a. Big shot, you know, look how big I am. A lot of [00:02:20] guys who are in this world get treated with extra respect. And, you know, you know, let's just be honest what [00:02:25] comes with this territory. When you're a bigger dude, you get treated differently. You know, I've seen [00:02:30] myself in airports where I've been with bodybuilding buddies who are like giants and they just, they get, [00:02:35] They get extra treatment, special treatment.

 

[00:02:38] Vince: So there is a bit of a mindset that comes [00:02:40] with like, look at us. There's a bit of an entitlement. Things should come easier. Again, I might be [00:02:45] completely off, but these have been some of my observations and I'm sure this is, you know, prevalent and you know, [00:02:50] all pro with all pro athletes to some degree, you know, celebrities, et cetera, but I'm [00:02:55] kind of sharing, um, You know, the context here.

 

[00:02:58] Vince: And he was like, you know, is there a kind [00:03:00] of like, he didn't say this, but like, you know, is there any other way to market my business without like kind of doing [00:03:05] some of these markety things, some of these salesy things, and I totally get it now he's [00:03:10] hired me right as his business coach and as his business coach.

 

[00:03:13] Vince: It is my job to show him how [00:03:15] I've made money and how students have made money. I'm not saying that there aren't other ways to make money [00:03:20] without kind of coming across as maybe salesy and marketing. There are different ways of building a brand, [00:03:25] right? But at the end of the day, This conversation is about [00:03:30] validation and I get this so many fricking times from guys who are essentially [00:03:35] looking for ways to do things that seek [00:03:40] validation from the crowd.

 

[00:03:42] Vince: And what we're talking about here is that there, [00:03:45] There is this concept of idealism that, Hey, you can make money online without having to be [00:03:50] salesy marketing, and then there's reality and not having to do salesy and [00:03:55] marketing things in my opinion is just not reality. At [00:04:00] some point in time, you are going to have to pitch.

 

[00:04:02] Vince: You are going to have to make an offer. [00:04:05] You're going to have to ask people to raise their hands. You are going to have to do things [00:04:10] that are salesy and marketing. It's just the way things are, right? [00:04:15] It's like me trying to be a pro bodybuilder and saying, I just don't want to eat this way. This, this whole [00:04:20] concept of eating six meals a day is just ridiculous, man.

 

[00:04:23] Vince: To eat chicken and to eat [00:04:25] rice all the time and to eat, you know, fish and white potatoes, all it's just [00:04:30] not like you just say, Vince, you can't be a bodybuilder then. Like what pipe are you [00:04:35] smoking? At the end of the day, there are certain things that have to be done in order to [00:04:40] look like a bodybuilder. I don't, you know what?

 

[00:04:41] Vince: I just don't want to do all this cardio. Like there must be a different way. Like, [00:04:45] well then you're not going to be a pro bodybuilder. So there's idealism and then there's reality. If you want to make [00:04:50] money online, I recommend you learn from people who are making a lot of money [00:04:55] online. You have to do things the other people don't want to [00:05:00] do all right.

 

[00:05:00] Vince: The reality is that if you're going to win online as an online fitness coach. [00:05:05] You have to gain specific skills. You have to learn how to create [00:05:10] viral content. You have to learn how to copyright and write called actions that get [00:05:15] people to respond. You have to learn the skill of influence and [00:05:20] persuasion.

 

[00:05:20] Vince: You have to learn how to sell on the phone and overcome objections. [00:05:25] You have to learn how to follow up and be persistently aggressive. You [00:05:30] know, if you don't like that word enthusiastically persistent, right? You have to learn how [00:05:35] to pitch and make offers and add bonuses and add scarcity and add [00:05:40] urgency and use deadlines.

 

[00:05:41] Vince: These are all skills. These are all principles you just [00:05:45] can't avoid. Again, I'll go back for the bodybuilders listening here that I don't want to do this. I don't want to do this. [00:05:50] I'm better than that. You know, uh, you're becoming one of those guys. Oh, you're, you know, Oh, you're going to [00:05:55] that side. It's like, who cares?

 

[00:05:57] Vince: Do you want to stay stuck in the gym as [00:06:00] a broke bodybuilder, as a personal trainer, working 50, 60 hours a week [00:06:05] into your fifties and sixties? Heck I got students in their twenties. I got a [00:06:10] 22, I got 24 year olds making 15, 50 plus K per [00:06:15] month, right? That's. More embarrassing to be [00:06:20] stuck in the gym. You're the biggest dude in the gym.

 

[00:06:22] Vince: You got all the muscle in the world. You got [00:06:25] this hot little girl on your arm and you can't even provide for her because [00:06:30] you are afraid to be perceived as a [00:06:35] marketer. And as somebody who believes in their services, you need to stop [00:06:40] looking for validation from others. And you got to start going to [00:06:45] the point where you're making so much money, where these guys privately approach you in the change room.[00:06:50]

 

[00:06:50] Vince: And they're not asking you about your stack. They're asking you about, Hey man, how you blown [00:06:55] up your business. And then guess what? These guys will shut the heck up. Like, just tell [00:07:00] these guys to shut up. Right? If you're going to give out [00:07:05] marketing advice, you better have a good freaking business. The guys who are telling you, Oh, you're becoming one [00:07:10] of those guys.

 

[00:07:11] Vince: Oh, you're going to start doing that stuff. Ask them to see their bank account. Now, if they have a [00:07:15] bank account that's way bigger than yours, and they're doing something that's, uh, you know, a different model that [00:07:20] jives more with you, okay. Follow their model. All right, but I can tell you [00:07:25] that if you even look at the top guys online, right, the top [00:07:30] educators, you know, even look at the Mike Izzertals now and the Jeff Nippers, the guys they're selling, they're [00:07:35] making offers on a consistent basis.

 

[00:07:37] Vince: Anybody who's making a decent amount of [00:07:40] money is using sales and marketing techniques, right? Stop listening to broke [00:07:45] bodybuilders. They got nothing on you, right? I'm telling you guys, These guys will come approach you down [00:07:50] the road. I remember working with big Ben, you know, when he started looking at some of my stuff, he was kind [00:07:55] of like, he was kind of smirking, you know, he's like, Oh, this is the stuff that you do.

 

[00:07:59] Vince: Oh, you have to make these [00:08:00] long sales pages. All you know, he's like, I know he was skeptical. He was hesitant. He's like, Oh, I'm a, you know, I'm a [00:08:05] pro athlete. You know, we don't, we don't do this. I'm not, can't, you know, lower myself to doing this kind of [00:08:10] sales and marketing stuff. And then I told him how much I was making and uh, love you, big Ben.

 

[00:08:14] Vince: Big Ben. [00:08:15] Probably not listening to this, but he's like, Hey, you got to teach me how to do that. I'm like, because these [00:08:20] guys know that what they're doing isn't working, right? So you need to stop seeking approval [00:08:25] from these dudes, right? Think five years out from now, do you want these guys to be tipping [00:08:30] your hat to you?

 

[00:08:30] Vince: Because you didn't do a five guys post or you didn't do like, you know, Hey, deadline is [00:08:35] today or blah, blah, blah, whatever marketing techniques we're teaching you. Or do you want these guys to be tipping their [00:08:40] hat to you because you don't listen to them? I didn't seek their validation or their approval and you [00:08:45] charge your own path because you had a vision for your life to provide for your lady and for your [00:08:50] children and to create a better life.

 

[00:08:51] Vince: So you could impact more people and you want to build a team [00:08:55] and you want to have more freedom and you wanted your methods to get out to the world. So you know what? I'm going to learn [00:09:00] this marketing thing. You know what? I'm going to learn how to market. I'm going to take my bodybuilder hat [00:09:05] off. It's got me only so far in life.

 

[00:09:06] Vince: You can only make so much money bodybuilding. Right, most of these [00:09:10] guys are broke. You know, it's a tough, tough sport. As most professional athletes are, most musicians [00:09:15] are. You know, getting to the top. I mean, it's a tough, you know, fighters, etc. It's a tough sport. These are tough [00:09:20] sports. These are tough things to be successful.

 

[00:09:21] Vince: So you've got to learn how others have done it. And if you're an [00:09:25] online fitness coach, there are specific skill sets you need to develop.

 

[00:09:28] [00:09:30] [00:09:35] [00:09:40] [00:09:45]

 

[00:09:46] Vince: You got to learn how to create content [00:09:50] and copyright and close and have conversations and create a continuity [00:09:55] program and to send people and build community.

 

[00:09:57] Vince: These are all high income skills that we teach. If there was a [00:10:00] different way of doing it, I would be teaching it. And there, there probably are different ways of doing it, but this is the way [00:10:05] we teach it. So if you've, if you've hired me as your coach, if you've hired me as your mentor, all [00:10:10] right. Build your business in the way that has worked for me and has worked for countless [00:10:15] students 400 plus people who've done multiple six figures a year Plus over 36 million year fitness [00:10:20] coaches and stop worrying about these guys and gals.

 

[00:10:21] Vince: They don't matter it's always these dudes and these girls [00:10:25] who've got nothing going for them except their bodies that are giving the advice on how to market. It [00:10:30] blows my mind. Get into a room with marketers who are making money [00:10:35] and you're instantly going to feel like an idiot.

 

[00:10:36] Vince: You're going to be like, why am I not doing this marketing stuff? They make making [00:10:40] money sound so easy. That's the room you want to be around where you're the brokest guy [00:10:45] and then you will humble yourself. And when you are not, In a humbled state, then [00:10:50] you'll be able to receive advice and then you'll be able to be blessed and you will see your business [00:10:55] change.

 

[00:10:55] Vince: So I hope this encouraged at least one person. And, um, I just hate [00:11:00] seeing guys with so much potential. Like I see so many great bodybuilding dudes, like you're so [00:11:05] disciplined, you're so focused, like you've got so much, so much potential. And you know, really, that's what I saw in big Ben. He [00:11:10] was such a smart dude.

 

[00:11:11] Vince: I'm like, but nobody knows who you are. Nobody knows how smart you [00:11:15] are. Like. These guys here at gold's gym do, but like, dude, you, you have [00:11:20] so much knowledge to share with the world. You could help so many people. And just because you [00:11:25] don't want to learn how to market a certain way, you're going to let that get in the way.

 

[00:11:29] Vince: That's pride [00:11:30] pride book comes before a fall. And, uh, I think eventually you'll get to a point where you're experiencing [00:11:35] enough pain in your life where you're going to just like, I don't care. Okay. Vinny, you got me. [00:11:40] I'm in, show me how to do this and we'll show you how to do it. Um, I hope you don't have to [00:11:45] wait until then.

 

[00:11:46] Vince: I hope this catches you before and you just realize that, Hey, [00:11:50] um, there is no shame in learning sales and marketing. There's so many great people out [00:11:55] there who are making massive impacts in the world. And again, you don't have to become a slimy salesman. You don't have to [00:12:00] do things that are feel gimmicky.

 

[00:12:01] Vince: I mean, I'm not telling you to do something. Doesn't feel authentic with you. We can make [00:12:05] the cool thing with marketing is we can make essentially every technique like unique to you. To you, [00:12:10] right? But at the end of the day, there are principles that we need to follow. Just like in bodybuilding, you know, [00:12:15] there's certain exercises you got to do.

 

[00:12:16] Vince: Certain rep and set schemes or certain macro, like there's just certain [00:12:20] things that come with the territory. And if you're not prepared to do that and you think you're special and you can [00:12:25] do something different, you know, when you're following a specific mentor's approach, then, you know, good [00:12:30] luck, you're going to need it.

 

[00:12:31] Vince: All right. I hope you got some value from this one. They could help so many more people, but they're just [00:12:55] they just keep getting in their own way. Share this episode.
